Overview of Our Laboratory
Our laboratory, in affiliation with the University of Arizona, Tucson, has been processing and storing cord blood since 1992 and was the first family cord blood stem cell bank in the world. It was initially established as a pilot program partially sponsored by the American Cancer Society and the University of Arizona using technology pioneered by Dr. David T. Harris, professor of microbiology and immunology at the University.
We own our state-of-the-art laboratory where the cord blood stem cells are processed, tested, and stored. As part of CBR’s CellAdvantage® System, our automated processing technology delivers the highest published stem cell recovery rate in the industry – 99 percent, which means CBR saves more stem cells for families. We also take full responsibility to ensure that the processing, quality-control, and quality-assurance metrics are in accordance with FDA guidelines in edition to being accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services CLIA program. In addition, we are licensed in the states of New York, New Jersey, Maryland and California (currently the only states requiring "special licensing").
