Our Management Team

Thomas E. Moore
Chief Executive Officer

Thomas Moore is a co-founder and has served as CEO since 1995. He has over 19 years of management experience with start-ups, including as a founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of SciClone Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company which went public in 1992. From 1988 to 1998, Mr. Moore served as the principal of Sand Hill Management Group, a private investment and management firm involved primarily in turn-around and start-up management of high growth businesses. From 1982 to 1987, Mr. Moore was Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Synercom Technology, a company that he took public in 1986. From 1967 to 1982, Mr. Moore held a number of senior management positions at Honeywell Inc., including Vice President of Pacific Operations. He holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.S. in Finance and Marketing from California State University, Hayward.

 


Johnnie W. Domingue
Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer

Johnnie Domingue has served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer since 1999. Prior to joining Cord Blood Registry, Mr. Domingue held various executive management positions with private and public companies involved in software sales and service as well as manufacturing and oil service operations. He brings to Cord Blood Registry over 25 years of experience and helped lead three firms through the IPO process since 1986. Mr. Domingue holds a B.S. in Accounting from Louisiana State University.

 

 



Stephen M. Grant
Executive Vice President

Stephen Grant is a co-founder and Executive Vice President, and is responsible for overseeing all marketing and communications activities for CBR. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Grant worked for eight years with SmithKline Beecham, Inc., where he served as Senior Pharmaceutical Consultant specializing in managed care organizations, contracting, and program launches. In addition to five years in group benefit insurance sales with California Casualty Insurance Co., he was also President of Shredmor, an apparel marketing and promotions firm. Mr. Grant holds a B.A. in Social Science from the University of California, Berkeley.

 

 


Cornelius J. Merlini
Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations

As Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations, Cornelius Merlini is responsible for overseeing field sales, clinical affairs and both consumer and professional marketing for CBR. He also leads the company's healthcare compliance initiative, Principles in Action®, and serves as the primary liaison with the industry's trade group, the Association of Family Cord Blood Banks. Mr. Merlini joined CBR from Johnson & Johnson, where he was the worldwide vice president for the company's cardiovascular franchise. During his tenure with J&J, Mr. Merlini also held several other leadership positions, including executive director of the company's McNeil Nutritionals business, where he led consumer and professional marketing efforts for several brands, and led the Rx-to-OTC switch effort of J&J/Merck's Mevacor. Mr. Merlini also spent 10 years at Hoechst Marion Roussel, first as a sales representative for Marion Laboratories, then in sales management and product marketing. Mr. Merlini holds a bachelor's degree from Villanova University in Pennsylvania.


David P. Zitlow
Senior Vice President of Public Affairs

David Zitlow is Senior Vice President of Public Affairs for CBR. In this role, Mr. Zitlow is responsible for directing corporate reputation, media and advocacy relations, public policy and internal communications activities. Mr. Zitlow has extensive experience leading both corporate and product public relations programs for numerous healthcare and consumer goods companies, including Bayer, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Eli Lilly, GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer and Procter & Gamble. Prior to joining CBR, he was executive vice president and director of the healthcare practice at GolinHarris, a global public relations agency, where he led some of the agency's largest accounts. Prior to GolinHarris, Mr. Zitlow held senior positions at Manning, Selvage and Lee, another public relations agency, and directed entrepreneurial business initiatives in roles at both McDonald's Corporation and Abbot Laboratories. Mr. Zitlow holds a master's degree in Corporate Public Relations and Integrated Marketing from Northwestern University and a bachelor's degree in Political Science and Spanish from DePauw University.
