INVESTING IN THE FUTURE
of our families

What is the Family Health Registry?

Our commitment to advancing the science of newborn stem cells goes far beyond simply storing samples for our families.

Through the Family Health Registry™ community, you can play an important part in advancing the science of newborn stem cells. CBR client families who join are the first to know about important clinical trials that could potentially help their loved ones. Plus, all CBR clients are eligible to participate at no additional cost.

Let's work together to help all CBR families and continue pushing the science forward.

Why Participate?

BE PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER
Our community is growing every day. Families who participate receive a personalized summary of the latest in newborn stem cell research. Among the participants, we've already identified 25,000 clients with family members who could potentially benefit from existing or emerging treatments using newborn stem cells.

STAY CONNECTED
By participating, you'll be among the first to know about research opportunities and important clinical trials that could benefit your loved ones. Our team of board-certified Genetic Counselors can help you connect to trials relevant to your family, which are supported by CBR or other research institutions.

HELP SHAPE FUTURE RESEARCH
CBR goes the extra mile. We don’t just connect clients with existing clinical trials, we actively support new research! We look for trends in the Family Health Registry and identify common conditions among CBR families that might be treatable with stem cells. Then we initiate and sponsor clinical trials to help advance the science of newborn stem cells.
GET FAMILY-SPECIFIC INFO
For certain families affected by specific conditions, the Longitudinal Umbilical Stem cell monitoring and Treatment REsearch (LUSTRE®) research study helps us to better understand different conditions for which newborn stem cells are being investigated as a potential treatment option. Families who join LUSTRE receive a Family Data Report that allows them to see how their personal experience compares to other CBR families.
ADVANCE DATA-DRIVEN STUDIES
Research conducted through the Family Health Registry and LUSTRE have been presented at international conferences and published in several scientific journals. By contributing anonymously to original research, we can all help improve our understanding of the science of stem cells and pave the way toward future treatments.

Stem cells have the potential to help treat hundreds of conditions. To unlock their potential, we need data.

CBR is the nation’s leading cord blood stem cell bank, serving as a place for families to keep stem cells from the umbilical cord for possible treatments in the future.

Through CBR's Newborn Possibilities Program®, CBR can collect the data needed to focus research on treatments that may help thousands of families.

We’re building a registry that collects the health histories of CBR families across the nation.

With it, we’re identifying the common conditions of families that may be able to use their stem cells in a new way.

And then we’re matching patients who may be candidates for clinical trials.

Here's how it works:

1. We securely and
confidentially gather and
store family health
information.

2. We identify common
conditions that may be treatable
with newborn stem cells.

3. We initiate and sponsor
FDA-regulated clinical trials to
further stem cell research.

4. We pinpoint potential
candidates for these new trials
and connect them.

5. We share discoveries about
stem cell advancements and
outcomes with our families and
their doctors.

It starts with CBR’s family health questionnaire ...

So far, 100,000+ families have completed the survey, identifying any conditions that may be treatable with stem cells.

Out of those who’ve responded, CBR has identified 5,300+ families as potentially benefitting from our research efforts, with conditions such as:

Autism/Autism Spectrum
Disorder/Apraxia

Cerebral palsy/Periventricular
Leukomalacia/Hypotonia

In-utero Brain Injury/Stroke

Hypoxic-ischemic Brain Injury
(e.g., Anoxic brain injury,
Asphyxia, Birth hypoxia,
Hemiplegia, Hypoxic-ischemic
encephalopathy (HIE))
